Spinifex Rosé 2024

Spinifex Rosé is a dry Barossa Valley rosé of Grenache and Mataro.

Four dry-grown sites contribute in 2024: Angaston, Ebenezer, Vine Vale and the southern edge of the Bethany foothills, across soils that range from gravelly sand through to red clay. Vine age runs from 25 to 90 years and the plantings are predominantly bush vines. The blend is Grenache at 62 per cent and Mataro at 38. Skin contact was kept short, two to six hours by batch, before pressing to tank for fermentation. A small portion went through malolactic conversion, and the wine spent six months on lees in tank. Pete Schell has been making rosé here for two decades and it shows in the restraint.

Snappy and energetic, with wild strawberry, mandarin peel and a dusty mineral close. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees. Pair it with grilled octopus, a plate of charcuterie, or chicken and tarragon off the barbecue.
