Swinney Riesling 2024

Swinney Riesling is a dry Riesling from two of the oldest blocks in the Powderbark vineyard.

Vintage 2024 arrived early after one of the hottest, driest years on record, which made the farming here matter more than usual: organic, dry-farmed, cane-pruned blocks running north to south, with shade cloth protecting the bunches from excessive sun and any roasted character. Rob Mann reports fruit of real depth and intensity with balanced, high natural acidity in spite of the season. Pressing was done as whole bunches, fermentation was natural in stainless steel on a high solids component, which he says builds nuance and a saline core, and the wine then rested on lees in tank to hold freshness and build texture.

Concentrated and dry, with lime cordial, white peach skin and a chalky mineral close; the acid is high but balanced. Serve at 9 degrees. Good with Thai fish cakes, roast pork belly or a plate of oysters.
