Description

TarraWarra Estate Barbera is a supple, savoury Yarra Valley take on the Piedmontese grape.

TarraWarra Estate was established in 1983 by Marc and Eva Besen, and the property is also home to the TarraWarra Museum of Art. While the estate is best known for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it has a keen interest in Italian varieties, and Barbera is one that suits the Yarra's climate. The 2021 shows raspberry and blue fruit with licorice, dried herbs and savoury notes, while darker undertones give it personality. There's good density and volume, balanced by the refreshing acidity that is Barbera's calling card, and supple tannins carry the length.

Serve at 15 to 17 degrees. It's a natural with Italian food: pizza, pasta with ragù or a plate of salumi.
