Thomas Wines Cellar Reserve Braemore Semillon 2017

Thomas Wines Cellar Reserve Braemore Semillon is a Hunter Valley Semillon held back six years before release.

The Cellar Release programme started in 2001, once Andrew Thomas realised how much his flagship Braemore gained with time in glass. Each year a small parcel is set aside and kept for six years before it goes out. He describes the wine as a spring that slowly unwinds, revealing light toast and hay along the way, with the best vintages continuing on that path for fifteen years and more, and six years in, the transformation is underway. The vineyard itself was planted in 1969 on the sandy alluvial flats of Hermitage Road, Pokolbin, where deep free-draining loam over an old sea floor lets the roots go down and gives the wines their famous longevity.

Savoury on opening, then toast, citrus, salt, mineral and woodsmoke unfold slowly across a textured palate with rounded acid and well-knit phenolics. Serve at 10 degrees. Match it with roast chicken, pork belly or a plate of sashimi.
