Thomas Wines Synergy Semillon 2022

Thomas Wines Synergy Semillon is a multi-vineyard dry Semillon from the Hunter Valley.

Old-vine Semillon from several Hunter sites goes into this blend, and the logic is simple: Andrew Thomas takes the best parcels for his single-vineyard bottlings, and everything else off those same vineyards ends up here. In 2022 that meant roughly three-quarters Braemore, with the balance from Brycefield and Fordwich Hill. Fermentation was in stainless steel, as it is every year, with no oak and no malolactic. The result is built from raw material well above its price bracket, which is why this bottling has a following of its own among people who drink Hunter Semillon regularly.

Tight and citrusy, lemon and grapefruit with a chalky finish and low alcohol. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees. Oysters, whitebait or a simple green salad with a squeeze of lemon; leave a bottle five years and it will turn toasty.
