Thomas Wines Synergy Shiraz 2022

Thomas Wines Synergy Shiraz is a multi-vineyard Hunter Valley Shiraz raised in seasoned French oak.

Six blocks went into the 2022: Fordwich Hill, the Kiss and Dam sections at Pokolbin Estate, Sweetwater Ridge, Cote D'Or and Black Cluster, each handled on its own. Pre-fermentation maceration ran one to two days cold, vinification was in stainless steel, and malolactic conversion happened after racking to barrel. Fifteen months in 300-litre French hogsheads followed. None of this differs much from what Andrew Thomas does with his top reds; the difference lies in which barrels get chosen for which label. Thirty-odd Hunter vintages have given him a clear view of the blend he wants.

Medium-bodied and savoury, with dark berry, earth and pepper over fine tannin. Fifteen to sixteen degrees. Try it with a steak sandwich, roast lamb or grilled field mushrooms; there is no need to decant, and no need to wait.
