Thomas Wines Two of a Kind Shiraz 2020

Thomas Wines Two of a Kind Shiraz is a red blending Hunter Valley and McLaren Vale Shiraz.

Two halves of the country, near enough half and half in the bottle. The Hunter portion at 52 per cent came off Ridgeview and Pokolbin Estate, the latter being the source of the Kiss Shiraz, which was not made in 2020. From McLaren Vale came fruit off Barry Clarke's vineyard in Blewitt Springs, sandy country that gives perfume and lift. Each parcel fermented separately in stainless steel with twice-daily pumpovers, then the wine was blended soon after pressing and matured sixteen months in used French hogsheads. Andrew Thomas learnt his trade in McLaren Vale before moving north, which explains the pairing.

Dark fruit with a floral edge, medium-bodied, supple tannin and a savoury finish that lingers without weight. Serve at 16 degrees, straight from the bottle. Lamb burgers, barbecued chicken or a mushroom lasagne would all be at home with it.
