Thomas Wines Two of a Kind Shiraz 2021

Thomas Wines Two of a Kind Shiraz is a two-region Shiraz split between the Hunter Valley and McLaren Vale.

Four Hunter blocks, Cote D'Or, Sweetwater, Ridgeview and the Dam Block, make up 52 per cent of this, and the rest travels from Barry Clarke's vineyard in Blewitt Springs, the sandiest and highest corner of McLaren Vale. The two halves were kept apart through fermentation in stainless steel, pumped over twice a day, then blended shortly after pressing and given sixteen months in used French hogsheads. Nothing new in the oak, deliberately. What the Hunter contributes is perfume and restraint; what McLaren Vale brings is depth through the middle.

Plum and blackberry with a lick of spice, medium-weighted, tannins fine and the finish savoury and dry. Sixteen degrees is the mark. Lamb shoulder, pork ribs or a pot of beef and red wine stew all match it well.
