Thomas Wines Two of a Kind Shiraz 2022

Thomas Wines Two of a Kind Shiraz is an interstate Shiraz blend from the Hunter Valley and McLaren Vale.

The 2022 draws its Hunter half from Fordwich Hill on the western edge of the valley, with the balance from Barry Clarke's Blewitt Springs vineyard in McLaren Vale, almost an even split. Both batches fermented separately in stainless steel and were blended soon after pressing, then matured sixteen months in 300-litre French hogsheads. Andrew Thomas came out of McLaren Vale before establishing himself in the Hunter, and these wines are his tribute to the interstate blends that dominated Australian wine lists in the 1950s and 60s, when nobody thought a single region made a wine better.

Dark fruit and chocolate with a floral lift and gentle spice, generous but never heavy, the tannins supple. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. Good with steak, slow-roast lamb or a dish of eggplant parmigiana.
