Toolangi Vineyard Chardonnay 2023

Toolangi Vineyard Chardonnay is a single-vineyard Yarra Valley Chardonnay raised in French oak.

Tough conditions early in 2023 gave way to a mild, kind harvest, and Yarra Chardonnay from the season has turned out well across the board. Here the fruit was destemmed and pressed to French oak with ten per cent new barrels, fermented on its lees and matured nine months in wood. The property has been planted since 1995 and now averages twenty-two years of vine age, spread across Gingin, Mendoza and I10V3 on fine clay loam. Chardonnay is what it has become known for, and the low yields off this site are a large part of why.

Bright and finely drawn, grapefruit and nectarine with a mineral undertow and no excess weight. Serve at 12 degrees. Kingfish crudo, chicken and lemon or a bowl of fresh pasta with cream and peas all suit it.
