Toolangi Vineyard Pauls Lane Chardonnay 2019

Toolangi Vineyard Pauls Lane Chardonnay is a Yarra Valley Chardonnay from twenty rows of the vineyard's oldest vines.

Twenty rows within D Block, planted in 1995 when the vineyard was first established, carry a mix of I10V3 and Gin Gin clones. They crop lightly and hold their acidity, which is the reason they are picked and made separately. Fruit was crushed and pressed with full solids straight into oak with twenty per cent new barrels, the fermentation left to wild yeast, and the wine spent ten months on lees. Dixons Creek is among the cooler corners of the Yarra Valley, and the forest at the boundary of the property helps keep nights cold through ripening.

Pear and citrus with a nutty edge and a dry, powdery close, medium-weighted and clean throughout. Serve it at around 12 degrees. Roast chicken, grilled whiting or a leek and gruyere tart will all match it comfortably.
