Description
Tornatore Etna Rosato is a dry rosé from the northern slope of Mount Etna, made from Nerello Mascalese grown on volcanic soil.
Etna is a wine region unlike any other in Italy, a working volcano whose vineyards sit between roughly 400 and 1,000 metres on terraces of black volcanic sand and lava rock, many of them planted to old, bush-trained vines. The Tornatore family farms on the northern flank around Castiglione di Sicilia, in the contrade that give the mountain its most sought-after reds. Nerello Mascalese is the principal red grape here, thin-skinned and late ripening; picked for rosato it gives a pale, dry style that owes much to the altitude and the wide swing between day and night temperatures. Fermentation is cool and in stainless steel, without oak, so the character of the mountain is left to speak for itself.
Serve well chilled, at around 9 degrees, with seafood, charcuterie, grilled vegetables or lighter pasta dishes. Best drunk young.
