Vasse Felix Chardonnay 2024

Vasse Felix Chardonnay is a complex, savoury Margaret River white with a fleshy core and a fine, bright finish.

Margaret River has become one of Australia's most admired Chardonnay regions, and the estate that started it all in 1967 remains among its leading names. Under chief winemaker Virginia Willcock, the house style favours wild fermentation, time on lees and French oak used for texture and complexity. Fruit from several estate vineyards gives a mix of citrus lift and riper stone fruit. Rockmelon and citrus blossom sit alongside struck flint, sea spray and a savoury, mushroomy thread, with fine phenolics and fresh acidity framing the weight, and grilled nectarine and roast pecan on the finish.

Pour it lightly chilled, at around 10 to 12 degrees, so the texture shows. Roast chicken with lemon and thyme, grilled marron or a mushroom risotto all work well, and it will build further complexity over the next five or so years.
