Voyager Estate Coastal Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Voyager Estate Coastal Cabernet Sauvignon is an organically grown Cabernet blend from Margaret River.

A cool opening to the 2022 season pushed flowering back and slowed the vines early, but by late December the organically farmed rows had caught up, and dense canopies shaded the fruit through summer. Picking finished in early April. The blend lands at 86 per cent Cabernet with 11 per cent Merlot and 3 per cent Petit Verdot, all from the gravelly coastal slopes of Stevens Valley. Whole berries went into open, static and concrete fermenters below 27 degrees, then seven months in French oak, a tenth of it new, and concrete. Blending happened in November, bottling a month later.

Ripe mulberry and cherry sit over vanilla and a grind of nutmeg, and the tannins have a milk-chocolate softness. Pour it at 16-18 degrees. Good with butterflied lamb, duck ragu or grilled mushrooms on toast.
