Voyager Estate Coastal Cabernet Sauvignon 2024

Voyager Estate Coastal Cabernet Sauvignon is a seaside-grown Margaret River Cabernet with fine tannin and plenty of fruit weight.

Moderate crops are the point of the Coastal Estate plantings in Stevens Valley: less fruit per vine, more of the saline, gravelly character that marks this corner of Margaret River. The 2024 season ran warm and dry on the back of generous winter rain, so the vines never wanted for water, and the reds came in with weight and fine, plentiful tannin. Grapes were destemmed and fermented as whole berries across open vats, static tanks and concrete, kept cool to hold the lifted aromatics, with gentle hand-plunging twice a day. Maturation followed in French oak, a quarter of it new, and concrete.

Expect dark plum and cassis with a graphite edge, then tannins that are firm without being drying. Decant briefly and serve at 17 degrees. It suits roast lamb shoulder, beef short ribs or a mushroom and thyme pie.
