Voyager Estate Coastal Chardonnay 2021

Voyager Estate Coastal Chardonnay is a medium-bodied dry white from Margaret River.

Stevens Valley sits close to the coast near the Margaret River township, on gentle slopes of red-brown gravel about a metre deep over stony clay. Ocean breezes cool the site, and the small blocks are planted to several clones, each picked separately. Citrus forms the core of the fruit most years, with green and yellow tropical fruit behind it. Parcels were pressed and left to settle overnight before fermenting in French oak puncheons, then stirred on lees across seven months to build texture. The components were blended and the wine went into bottle in November 2021. Voyager Estate has held this land since the late 1970s.

Grapefruit and white peach with a saline thread and a soft, creamy middle. Serve at 11-12 degrees in a decent-sized glass. Try it with grilled snapper, chicken schnitzel or a bowl of pasta with lemon and pangrattato.
