Voyager Estate Coastal Chardonnay 2022

Voyager Estate Coastal Chardonnay is an estate-grown white from the Stevens Valley in Margaret River.

Gingin is the clone that built Margaret River's reputation for this variety: small, loose bunches, low yields, and a grapefruit-pith line through the middle of the wine. It dominates the blend, all of it estate fruit from gravelly slopes near the coast, where sea breezes hold the acidity together through summer. Each parcel was pressed and settled overnight, then fermented in French oak puncheons. Lees stirring over seven months added weight without covering the fruit. Blending came late in the year, with bottling in November 2022.

Lemon curd, nectarine and a little toasted hazelnut, finishing dry and saline. Eleven to twelve degrees is about right. Roast chicken, scallops with brown butter or a creamy leek tart will all sit well beside it.
