Voyager Estate Coastal Chardonnay 2024

Voyager Estate Coastal Chardonnay is a dry white from Margaret River's Wallcliffe country.

Picking started remarkably early in 2024, between 27 January and 5 February, the kind of compressed, warm season that rewards good canopy work. Each parcel was pressed and left overnight to settle, then fermented in a mix of concrete and seasoned French puncheons with a tenth new. Eight months of lees stirring built weight and detail. Gingin clone material gives the grapefruit and citrus backbone; the smaller blocks planted to other clones add purity and lift. The soils here are gravelly and shallow, over stony clay, on slopes that catch the sea breeze.

Aromas of white nectarine and lemon zest, then a broad, textural palate that finishes clean and salty. Serve at 11-12 degrees. It handles richer food: pork belly, roast pumpkin risotto or a piece of grilled kingfish.
