Voyager Estate Shiraz 2018

Voyager Estate Shiraz is a medium to full-bodied red from Margaret River.

Margaret River is Cabernet country first, but this variety has quietly become one of the estate's stronger suits. Select parcels from four blocks go into the wine, made in the restrained style the house favours: bright fruit with earth and spice underneath instead of sweetness and weight. Hand-picked grapes were destemmed and fermented as whole berries across open and closed fermenters, worked gently by hand plunging and pump-over. After pressing, the wine went to barrel, 34 per cent of it new, for twelve months, racked from time to time to clarify. The parcels were blended ahead of bottling in June 2019.

Red and black cherry, pepper and a turn of dried earth, with fine tannins and good length. Serve at 16-17 degrees. Lamb kofta, duck breast, or a mushroom and barley risotto are all sensible matches.
