Voyager Estate Shiraz 2019

Voyager Estate Shiraz is a cool-grown Margaret River red built on spice and freshness.

Four blocks supply the parcels, and the selection is made with restraint in mind. The 2019 growing season in Margaret River was unusually cool and late, with a mild January holding harvest back, which tends to favour a variety that can otherwise carry too much alcohol. Hand-picked bunches were destemmed but left uncrushed, then fermented as whole berries in a mix of open and closed vessels, with hand plunging and pump-over doing the work. After pressing, twelve months in oak followed, a portion of it new, with periodic racking. The parcels were blended before bottling.

Aromatically it leans to violets, raspberry and white pepper, and the palate is medium-weight with a savoury, dry finish. Sixteen degrees. Serve it with slow-cooked lamb, roast pork with fennel, or a plate of grilled vegetables and haloumi.
