Voyager Estate Sparkling Chenin Blanc 2022

Voyager Estate Sparkling Chenin Blanc is an aperitif-style sparkling white from Margaret River.

One block does all the work here. Weightmans Block 1 ripens early and holds acidity well, so the fruit arrives with punchy flavour at low potential alcohol, which is exactly the trade-off a sparkling base calls for. Picking was by hand, the bunches pressed whole and left to settle overnight before a cool ferment in stainless steel. A short period in tank preceded bottling in late May, and the wine lay on lees until October before disgorgement with a light dosage of four to five grams per litre. Chenin has been grown here since the region's early days.

Crisp apple and lemon rind with a fine, persistent bead and a bone-dry close. Serve at 6-8 degrees. It is a good match for fish and chips, a plate of oysters, or a cheese toastie at midnight.
