Voyager Estate Sparkling Rosé 2021

Voyager Estate Sparkling Rose is a traditional-method sparkling pink wine from Margaret River.

Merlot leads at 55 per cent with Shiraz behind at 45 per cent, all of it organic and estate-grown, which is an unusual pairing for a wine of this style and a deliberate one. Site and fruit selection follow strict rules: only blocks that give light red fruit flavour, and only at low sugar, so the finished wine stays restrained. The base was made by the traditional method and matured only briefly, keeping freshness at the front of the experience. The 2021 vintage was a good one in this part of the country, and the brightness of the year comes through clearly.

Red berries, florals and pink grapefruit, with a buoyant mousse, some flesh in the middle and a rounded finish. Serve at 7 degrees. It is at home with a summer lunch: prosciutto and figs, grilled quail, or strawberries and cream.
