Voyager Estate Vivid Red 2023

Voyager Estate Vivid Red is a light, unfined Margaret River red blend.

This was a new wine in the estate range when it appeared, and it owes something to Tim Shand's years in the Yarra Valley as chief winemaker at Punt Road before he moved west. The blend is Shiraz at 40 per cent with Tempranillo, Grenache and Merlot at 20 per cent each. Everything but the Merlot went into the fermenter as whole bunches and stayed on skins for two weeks; the Merlot was destemmed and handled the same way. Pressing was followed by three months in old barriques. Nothing was fined or filtered, and no sulphur was added.

Cherry, cranberry and a peppery, savoury edge, with soft tannin and a fresh, drinkable finish. Serve it lightly chilled, 14 degrees. It suits a charcuterie board, roast chicken, or a bowl of pasta with a simple tomato sauce.
