Weinbach Alsace Grand Cru Furstentum Gewürztraminer 2020

Weinbach's Furstentum Gewürztraminer comes from a steep, south-facing grand cru terrace on the Mont de Sigolsheim, farmed biodynamically.

Furstentum sits at the northern limit of the Altenbourg, its terraced slopes climbing quickly from three hundred to four hundred metres near the top of the Mont de Sigolsheim. The exposure is due south and the soil is a brown clay full of limestone with a pebbly structure that holds both moisture and warmth, a combination that makes it one of the finest sites in Alsace for this variety. Weinbach is among the very best addresses in the region for Gewürztraminer, and the house style is deliberately restrained: purity, balance and a savoury cast, without the confected character that marks so many examples of the grape. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically, which the domaine has practised for many years, and the fruit is whole-cluster pressed and fermented without added yeasts.

Drinking well now and capable of ten years or more. Serve at 10-12°C with Munster, a Thai curry or roast pork with quince.
