Weinbach Poire Williams 43° 700ml

Weinbach Poire Williams is a pear eau-de-vie distilled at Domaine Weinbach in Alsace and bottled at 43 per cent.

Domaine Weinbach at Kaysersberg is far better known for its aromatic Alsace whites, but the Faller family also make a range of eaux-de-vie and Marc d'Alsace from estate-grown fruit. Distillation is on a traditional Holstein still, and the aim throughout is to keep as much of the raw fruit aroma as possible rather than to build character in cask; these spirits are bottled clear and unaged. The range runs to Marc de Pinot, Marc de Gewürztraminer and Marc de Muscat alongside fruit distillates such as the Mirabelle. This bottling is made from Williams pears, the variety that gives the style its name and its distinctive perfume, and it is among the more precise examples of the genre coming out of Alsace.

Serve in a small glass at 8-10°C at the end of a meal, or with a slice of apple or pear tart. It also works alongside a mature Munster.
