Wirra Wirra Church Block Grenache Shiraz 2024

Wirra Wirra Church Block Grenache Shiraz is a medium-bodied McLaren Vale red that brings Grenache to the fore under the Church Block name.

Church Block has been Wirra Wirra's signature blend since the 1970s, and this Grenache Shiraz offers a different take on that idea. Grenache is one of McLaren Vale's great strengths, with old bush vines and sandy, well-drained soils producing fragrant, red-fruited wines, while Shiraz adds colour and a firmer spine. The result is lighter on its feet than the classic Cabernet-based blend: red fruits, florals and white pepper lead, followed by cherry, pomegranate, fresh plum and a touch of rose water, with fine-grained tannins and a finish of baking spice.

A light chill does this wine no harm; aim for around 15 to 16 degrees. Try it with roast chicken, pork and fennel sausages, lamb kofta or a Middle Eastern mezze spread.
