Yalumba Paradox Shiraz 2022

Yalumba Paradox Shiraz is a plush, powerful Barossa Shiraz with a savoury streak.

Barossa Shiraz is the style that made South Australian wine famous, and the winery at Angaston has been making it since the mid-1800s. The 2022 season was cool and slow across much of the region, which tends to give wines with good colour and fine tannins. This release is deep red, with dark plum, blackcurrant and dark chocolate on the nose alongside dried sage, olive tapenade and a touch of vanilla from oak. The palate is soft and rich, with blueberry, dark cherry, espresso and baking spice before a finish of attractive, ripe tannins.

Decant for half an hour and serve at around 17 to 18 degrees. Chargrilled rib-eye, beef cheeks braised in red wine or a spiced lamb tagine will all match its weight. It will drink well for several years.
