Description
Roero Le Coste is Alberto Oggero's most classically shaped Nebbiolo, from his grandfather's south-facing vineyard in Santo Stefano Roero.
Roero DOCG lies across the Tanaro from the Langhe on soils dominated by marine sand, which gives Nebbiolo a lighter frame and a more open aroma than it takes on in Barolo. Le Coste carries a higher proportion of clay than Oggero's other sites, and that, with 30-year-old guyot-pruned vines and a southerly exposure that guarantees sunlight hours in any season, makes it his most structured and consistent cru. In this release the wine is more vertical and immediate than the neighbouring Anime, combining austerity with drinkability, a pairing not often achieved in the variety. Vinification follows the estate pattern: hand-picked fruit, maceration on skins, then 12 months in large oak casks and a further six months in concrete before bottling, so the wood frames the wine without marking it.
Ready on release and will hold for eight to ten years. Serve at 16–18°C with braised beef, mushroom risotto or aged Castelmagno.
