Albino Rocca Dolcetto D'Alba 2020

Albino Rocca Dolcetto d'Alba is a single-vineyard Dolcetto grown inside the Barbaresco commune.

Dolcetto is the everyday red of the Langhe, early ripening and deeply coloured, usually made to be drunk within a few years of the harvest. Albino Rocca treat it more seriously than most. This bottling is drawn from one vineyard in Barbaresco with a predominantly east to south-east exposure, a first-rate location by any measure and one the family would be entitled to plant to Nebbiolo. The vines were put in during 1960 and 1978, and their maturity, combined with the sensible yields they offer, gives the wine more intensity and texture than the garden-variety Dolcetto d'Alba. Vinification is straightforward and reductive, with no oak involved, so the fruit and the site carry the wine. It is bottled under screwcap, which suits a style meant to be opened young and poured without ceremony.

Best over the next three years; serve at 16°C with salumi, pizza or pork and fennel sausage.
