Albino Rocca Moscato d'Asti 2018

Albino Rocca Moscato d'Asti is grown inside the Barbaresco appellation rather than in the heart of the Moscato zone.

Moscato d'Asti DOCG is a gently sparkling, sweet white of around five per cent alcohol, made by halting a single fermentation under pressure so that both sugar and carbon dioxide remain in the wine. The Rocca family are long-established Barbaresco growers with a genuine interest in the grape, and it was the Rocca sisters who introduced this importer to the specialist Moscato house Ca' d'Gal. Their own Moscato comes from 2.5 hectares of thirty-year-old vines at San Rocco Seno d'Elvio, in the Montersino cru in the southern and highest part of Barbaresco at 350 metres above sea level. It is an atypical source for the style, and the altitude keeps enough acidity in the fruit to balance the residual sugar.

Drink young, within a year or two of release, while the sparkle is lively. Serve at 8°C with fresh apricots, hazelnut cake or panettone.
