Description
Albino Rocca Moscato d'Asti is grown in Barbaresco rather than the heart of the Moscato zone, on the appellation's highest southern slopes.
Moscato d'Asti DOCG produces a gently sparkling, sweet white of around five per cent alcohol, made by stopping a single fermentation under pressure so that sugar and carbon dioxide are retained. The Rocca family are established Barbaresco growers, and their Moscato comes from 2.5 hectares of thirty-year-old vines in the commune of San Rocco Seno d'Elvio, in the Montersino cru at the southern and highest point of the Barbaresco appellation at 350 metres. It is an atypical source for the style, and the altitude preserves acidity that balances the residual sugar. The family's enthusiasm for the grape also led them to introduce the specialist Moscato producer Ca' d'Gal to this importer.
Made for early drinking, within a year or two of release. Serve at 8°C with stone fruit, torta di nocciole or a light almond cake.
