Description
Aphelion Welkin Grenache is the winery's regional Grenache, drawn from old bush vines across McLaren Vale.
Aphelion was founded in 2014 by Rob and Louise Mack, who built the business around Grenache at a time when the variety was still being pulled out in favour of Shiraz. The old dry-grown bush vines of McLaren Vale, particularly on the Blewitt Springs sands, give perfumed, medium-weight reds. Welkin is an old word for the sky, in keeping with the winery's astronomical names. Fermentation is with whole bunches and native yeast, ageing in older oak.
Serve slightly cool at 16 degrees with roast lamb, charcuterie or roast vegetables. Drink over the next eight years.
