Description

Arnaud Mortet Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is a new cuvée for the domaine and the only négoce wine in its portfolio, made from vines approaching 80 years of age.

Clos de Bèze is the grand cru at the top of the Gevrey hierarchy, planted by the monks of Bèze in the seventh century and lying immediately north of Chambertin itself, on brown limestone soils with good drainage and an even east-facing slope. Arnaud Mortet does not own vines here; the fruit is bought from a grower he says farms to the same standards as the domaine. He handles it exactly as he does the estate's Chambertin: one third of the crop went into the vat as whole bunches, two thirds destemmed with about half of that done by hand, and the wine was raised in two-thirds new Cavin barrels chosen for their very light toast, so the oak adds structure without smoke. Yields at this vine age are naturally low.

A wine for the long haul, best from ten years and worth cellaring well beyond. Serve at 16-18°C with roast game bird, beef Wellington or aged Comté.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
