Description

Arnaud Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée de Très Vieilles Vignes is built on 120-year-old vines in the lieu-dit En Champs.

Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest of the Côte de Nuits villages, and Arnaud Mortet, who now runs the domaine founded by his father Denis, farms across several of its best village sites. This cuvée comes from En Champs, Combe du Dessus and Aux Echézeaux. En Champs sits high on the slope near the Brochon boundary, just below the premier cru Champeaux at the northern end of what is sometimes called the Côte Saint-Jacques; it forms the backbone of Mortet’s Mes Cinq Terroirs and was once bottled on its own. Its vines are an extraordinary 120 years old and yield very little. Aux Echézeaux, on the Morey line, and Combe du Dessus, below Cazetiers, average around 80 years. The wine was fermented with sixty per cent hand-destemmed fruit and matured in thirty per cent new oak.

Give it three to five years and expect it to hold for fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, venison or aged hard cheese.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
