Description
Arnoux-Lachaux's village Chambolle-Musigny is assembled from five domaine-owned parcels at the top of the slope.
Chambolle-Musigny lies in the heart of the Côte de Nuits and is known for the most perfumed and finely framed Pinot Noir in Burgundy, a character usually put down to its thin, very stony limestone soils. The parcels behind this wine are Les Danguerrins, Les Creux Baissants, Les Fouchères and Derrière le Four, together covering 1.85 hectares, with an average vine age of 40 years. The vines are mostly north-facing and the ground is rocky and rich in limestone, which holds acidity and keeps the wine light on its feet. Charles Lachaux has moved the domaine towards higher trellising, later picking and a greater use of whole bunches in recent years, and the wines have become more aromatic and less extracted as a result.
Best given three to five years and good for a decade; serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom dishes or a soft washed-rind cheese.
