Description
Arnoux-Lachaux Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Procès is a small premier cru south of the village, where the domaine holds 0.7 hectares of vines over fifty years old.
Les Procès sits between Les Pruliers and the road, on the southern side of Nuits-Saint-Georges — the sector known for firmer, more structured wines than the lighter northern crus that border Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard is tiny, and Arnoux-Lachaux’s holding accounts for a large share of it, lying just below the Château Gris. Maison Joseph Drouhin owns most of what remains. Under Charles Lachaux the domaine has moved to high-trained vines, very low yields and a lighter hand with extraction and new oak than was once the norm here, and the wines have become more perfumed and more transparent as a result. Applied to a site with the structure of Les Procès, that approach gives a wine with tannic backbone but without the density that used to define southern Nuits.
Best given five years and capable of fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, braised beef cheek or a mature hard cheese.
