Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 2019

Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée is a village wine assembled from three parcels totalling 0.57 hectares below the village itself.

The parcels are Aux Communes, Aux Saules and Bossières, all on the lower ground of Vosne-Romanée where the soils are deeper than on the slope above. Yields in this release were held between 19 and 22 hl/ha, which is low even by premier cru standards and unusual for a village bottling. Vinification is 100 per cent whole bunch, with roughly 10 per cent new barrels for the élevage — a small proportion by the standards of the Côte de Nuits, and consistent with Charles Lachaux’s emphasis on perfume and transparency over structure and wood. The domaine has been among the most closely watched in Burgundy for a decade, largely because of the extent to which it has reworked its viticulture, and the village wine is a fair reading of what that work produces.

Approachable from three years and good for a dozen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, duck confit or a mushroom tart.
