Description

Bachelet-Monnot's Bourgogne Rouge is a three-parcel blend built almost entirely on old vines.

The domaine is based in Dezize-lès-Maranges at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, and is better known for its whites, which makes the quality of the fruit behind this red worth spelling out. One third comes from a parcel of old vines in the Hautes-Côtes, one third from village-level vines in Maranges, and the balance from a Bourgogne parcel on the edge of Puligny-Montrachet. The Puligny fruit brings perfume, Maranges the depth of fruit, and the Hautes-Côtes the structure and lift. Vine ages of sixty, seventy and eighty years are unusual at this level of the hierarchy. Fermentation is natural, in concrete, with around thirty per cent whole bunches, and the wine is raised only in used barrels, Marc Bachelet judging that the flesh of the fruit needed no new oak.

Bright and juicy, ready on release and holding for four or five years; serve at 16-18°C with charcuterie, roast pork or a mushroom risotto.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
