Description

Bachelet-Monnot Bâtard-Montrachet is a grand cru white from a 0.14-hectare holding at the cool Puligny end of the vineyard.

Bâtard-Montrachet straddles the boundary between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet and is one of the most powerful of the white grand crus. The Bachelet-Monnot parcel is a postage stamp of fifty-year-old vines planted at a density of 15,000 vines per hectare, sitting right at the top of the slope immediately below Le Montrachet, on the cooler Puligny side. That position consistently gives one of the more mineral and refined readings of the site: even in sunny years the power of Bâtard shows as intensity and drive rather than fat. The wine was raised in a single one-year-old 350-litre barrel, so quantities are minimal, with only a handful of bottles reaching Australia. Fermentation is spontaneous, as it is across the domaine's whites.

Worth cellaring for a decade or more and best decanted if opened young; serve at 10–12°C with turbot, lobster or veal in a cream sauce.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
