Description
Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière Rouge is drawn from eleven parcels in the largest climat of Maranges.
Maranges sits at the very southern tip of the Côte de Beaune, next to Santenay, and remains one of the better-value sources of red Burgundy from the Côte d'Or proper. Domaine Bachelet-Monnot was founded in 2005 by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet and is better known for its whites, though its Maranges reds have developed a strong following. La Fussière is the largest climat of the appellation, covering almost 35 hectares with a southerly exposure looking towards the start of the Côte Chalonnaise, on a slope between 290 and 400 metres. With the addition of a new parcel, the Bachelet holdings here now cover three hectares at an average vine age of sixty years, and eleven separate parcels are blended to make this cuvée. The wine spent roughly twelve months in used casks and was then racked to cement vats, where it rested for a further six months.
Drink from release and hold for eight to ten years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, coq au vin or a mushroom and barley risotto.
