Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière Rouge 2022

Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière is drawn from eleven parcels across the largest climat in the appellation, averaging 60 years of vine age.

Maranges sits at the very southern tip of the Côte de Beaune, immediately beyond Santenay and facing south towards the start of the Côte Chalonnaise. La Fussière is its biggest premier cru at close to 35 hectares, running up a slope between 290 and 400 metres on limestone-rich soils. The Bachelet brothers now farm three hectares here following the addition of a new parcel in 2020, and this cuvée is assembled from eleven separate plots within the climat. Their stated aim has always been to make finer, more aromatic reds from this end of the Côte, and the combination of limestone, altitude and 30 per cent whole bunches serves that. The wine spent around 12 months in used casks before being racked to cement vats for a further six months, so there is no new oak between the drinker and the site.

Drinking from two years and holding for eight to twelve. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pork, coq au vin or grilled mushrooms.
