Description
Les Clos Roussots is a Maranges Premier Cru that continues Santenay's Clos Rousseau, and this was Bachelet-Monnot's first separate bottling from it.
Maranges runs south from Santenay at the end of the Côte de Beaune, and Clos Roussots is among its better-regarded climats, sitting right on the boundary between the two villages. The Bachelet family has owned vines here for decades, but the holding was too small to vinify on its own and the fruit went into the village wines; a new fermage agreement took the total to just over half a hectare and made a single cuvée possible. The vineyard has a band of hard limestone beneath brown marl. Marc and Alexandre Bachelet fermented the whole crop with bunches intact for the first time here, and added no sulphur until racking. The wine is intensely floral and seductive, with a creamy texture and fine tannins.
Drink from now through the next ten years, with roast duck, veal or mushroom dishes, at 16 to 18°C.
