Description

Bachelet-Monnot Maranges Vieilles Vignes Rouge is drawn from two old-vine plots in the domaine's home appellation at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune.

Maranges covers three communes at the far southern end of the Côte de Beaune and is the base from which Marc and Alexandre Bachelet built the domaine. This cuvée comes from Le Chamery in Cheilly-lès-Maranges and Le Clos in Sampigny-lès-Maranges, where the vines are more than fifty years old and the soils tend towards red clay shot through with rocky chalk. Alexandre Bachelet notes that both sites are reasonably warm, and he uses a significant proportion of whole bunches, though less than usual in this vintage, to balance the depth of fruit. The result is a firmly fruited village red with dark cherry and bitter chocolate character and plenty of powdery tannin, and it remains one of the better-value old-vine reds of the Côte de Beaune.

Enjoyable now but better with a few years in bottle; serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, mushroom dishes or a soft washed-rind cheese.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
