Bachelet-Monnot Meursault Clos du Cromin 2021

Bachelet-Monnot Meursault Clos du Cromin comes from a 0.21-hectare parcel where half the vines are approaching a century old.

The Clos du Cromin lies on the northern side of the Meursault vineyards, close to the Volnay boundary. Enclosed by dry-stone walls and facing south to south-east, it has deep soil rich in red clay, though there is still plenty of rock at the base of the vineyard. Marc Bachelet describes it as a powerful terroir and a sunny site that ripens early, equally suited to Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. Marc and Alexandre Bachelet farm a small holding here, half of it planted to vines reaching 100 years of age, among the oldest in Meursault, with the rest planted in 1998. Alex Gambal, Patrick Javillier and Confuron-Cotetidot also work parcels in the vineyard, though those growers tend towards a fleshier style than the more Puligny-inflected Bachelet-Monnot version. Very little wine was made from this parcel in this release.

Best from a year or two in bottle and good for a decade; serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a gruyère-style cheese.
