Description

Bachelet-Monnot Pommard comes mainly from Chanlins, a village lieu-dit high on the Volnay side of the commune.

Pommard has a reputation for the firmest reds of the Côte de Beaune, but the parcels above the village behave differently. The brothers Alex and Marc Bachelet work a 0.25-hectare plot of 40-year-old vines in Chanlins, sitting just above the premier cru of the same name on the Volnay boundary. The land came from their father, who sold the fruit to négociants until 2011. At 400 metres this is one of the highest and steepest sites in the Côte de Beaune, and the combination of altitude and stony, chalk-rich soil gives a mid-weight, perfumed wine that reads more like Volnay than the Pommard cliché. A portion of fruit from recently replanted vines in La Vache is also included. The wine was fermented with 50 per cent whole bunches and raised with 30 per cent new oak.

Approachable after two or three years and drinking well for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, beef bourguignon or aged comté.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
