Description

Bachelet-Monnot Pommard is a village red drawn mostly from Chanlins, a high lieu-dit on the Volnay border.

Pommard sits between Beaune and Volnay and usually gives the sturdiest reds of the Côte de Beaune, though its higher, stonier sites can produce something finer. Most of this wine comes from Chanlins, a village lieu-dit lying just above the premier cru of the same name on the Volnay side of the commune. At 400 metres it is one of the highest and steepest vineyards of the Côte, and the stony, chalk-rich soils give a distinctly Volnay-like reading of Pommard. The 0.25-hectare parcel of 40-year-old vines came to Marc and Alexandre Bachelet from their father, who sold the fruit to négociants until 2011. A further quarter of the blend comes from La Vache, a well-sited vineyard above Les Rugiens-Hautes, which supplies the depth. This is the domaine's third release from the holding.

Give it four to ten years; it will handle roast lamb, braised oxtail or a mature Époisses. Serve at 16–18°C.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
