Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières comes from a rocky half-hectare beside the vines of Leflaive.

Les Folatières is among the most highly regarded Premiers Crus of Puligny-Montrachet, lying a stone's throw from Pucelles and bordering Clavoillon, at the same altitude as Chevalier-Montrachet. The name is said to derive from folles-terres, or crazy earth, probably a reference to the violent erosion these slopes suffer in heavy rain. Bachelet-Monnot work a low-yielding parcel of forty-year-old vines here, in the lower eastern pocket of the vineyard where the soil is very rocky, just below the Truffière vineyard. The parcel consistently produces tiny bunches with little juice, and Marc Bachelet notes that although the vines are only forty years old they behave as if twice that age. The wine is raised in barrel in the domaine's usual restrained style, giving silk and vibrancy rather than weight.

Give it three to five years and drink over the following fifteen. Serve at 10–12°C with scallops, roast chicken or aged Comté.
