Description

Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet is a village blend drawn mainly from five well-placed sites, none of them planted more recently than 25 years ago.

Puligny-Montrachet is the most tightly drawn of the great white wine villages of the Côte de Beaune, its water table sitting high enough that most cellars are above ground and its wines defined by a chalky, upright character rather than the breadth of neighbouring Meursault. The domaine now works 12 parcels in the commune, and this cuvée leans on five of them: Les Meix, Les Enseignères, Corvée des Vignes, Les Noyers Bret and Les Houillères. The youngest vines are 25 years old and the average is considerably higher, which shows in the depth the wine carries for a village bottling. As with all the Bachelet whites it fermented spontaneously and was raised in 350-litre barrels, a format the brothers favour for the gentler oak influence it gives.

Drinking well from release and holding for six to eight years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, chicken in cream sauce or a plate of oysters.
