Description
Bachelet-Monnot Santenay Blanc is built around Les Bras, a lieu-dit that is effectively a continuation of the Maranges premier cru La Fussière.
White wine is very much the minority in Santenay, which is better known for its reds, and the best of it comes from the chalkiest ground at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune. This cuvée has been in the Bachelet-Monnot range since 2012 and is drawn from four parcels of mature vines averaging 30 years of age. Les Bras supplies the backbone, running on from La Fussière across the appellation boundary, with Le Chainey providing the balance. Both are exceptionally chalky sites, and the brothers handle the fruit as they do all their whites, with spontaneous fermentation and raising in barrel, aiming for a creamy midpalate held together by the rocky, saline close the ground here gives.
Drinking now and holding for four to six years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled whiting, chicken terrine or a green salad with goat's cheese.
