Benjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses 2020

Benjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses is drawn from three north-facing terroirs on the cool side of the valley behind Meursault.

Auxey-Duresses lies in the combe that runs west from Meursault towards the Hautes-Côtes, and its whites have long been treated as an affordable alternative to its famous neighbour. Leroux blends fruit from Les Hautés, La Macabrée and Les Boutonniers, three sites that abut Meursault's Les Vireuils Dessous and Les Meix Chavaux, with the oldest vines dating back to 1946. The land here faces north and catches the cold air rolling down from the Hautes-Côtes, which makes it markedly fresher than the slope on the other side of the hill. Higher, cooler vineyards of this kind often come into their own in warmer years, and this is a clear example. The wine was vinified in 12-hectolitre casks, with a small portion of the blend raised for fifteen months in 600-litre barrels.

Ready on release and holding for five or six years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled whiting, chicken terrine or a fresh goat's cheese.
